  • 認知症とは、脳の病気によって起こる症状であり「脳の後天的な障害によって、知能が持続的かつ比較的短時間のうちに低下し、日常生活に支障をきたすようになること」をいうが、認知症かどうかのポイントは、①記憶の低下、②認知の障害、③生活の支障の３つがあるかどうかという事である。この事を踏まえ、年相応の物忘れとの違いについて詳しく述べていく。 　認知症と年相応の物忘れの鑑別は難しく困難である。認知症の初期症状に物忘れがあるが、物忘れのある人がすべての認知症というわけではなく、老化現象としての物忘れ(最近では、これを軽度認知障害と呼び、認知症の前段階と考えて、予防の試みが行われている)もあり、見分けが難しい。ただ、認知症と年相応の物忘れを比較すると、認知症は、特徴として体験した全体を忘れてしまう・進行する、見当識障害がある・自覚しない・生活機能に障害がでる・問題行動がある。
