I’m going to talk about today’s situation of black people in the U.S. The setting in this film is in 1964. The year is important for black people because the U.S made a new civilrights law in the year. It protected a lot of rights of black people so black people’s situation began to improve after 1964. For example the number of black public officers sharply increased after 1964. There were 33 black public officers in 1941. In 1965 there were 280, in 1975 1469, in 1985 6016. As a more remarkabl example Roulensu Dagurasu Wairuder who is black was elected to be a governer in Virginia despite the fact that black people accounted for only 20percent of the population in Virginia. The new civilrights law improved blackpeople’s situation in education. The rate of black people who can enter the school in white residence area is 2percent before 1964, but after that the rate increased to 46percent.
Like this it seems that the discrimination against black people is disappering. But it isn’t true. The discrimination is left even today.
It is an actual case. It happened in Georgia last December. Kenes Walker, black man, had a meeting with his friends before Christmas. When they came back from the meeting, a police officer stopped them and laid them on the ground. Then the police officer shot them dead. According to the police officer’s report when he stopped them he was on the investigation about drug crime and Walker’s car looks like the car wanted for drug narcotic’s car.
