    Introduction
    In April, 2005, Pope John Paul II died after suffering from serious diseases. I was staying in Australia during that time. My host family is Italian-Australian and they are devout Christians. They all wept at the death of the Pope. Most Christians in Australia hastened to Catholic Churches nearby to commemorate the Pope. I went along with them. Hundreds of people came in the Church even though it was midnight. I had never seen such a mass for the Pope's soul.
    The death of the Pope must have had an impact on all Christians in the world. He traveled around 104 foreign countries to visit Catholic Churches in the world.1 He made a positive reaction for other cultures and religion. It was the first time for the Roman Catholic Church to have a Pope from Poland. In Poland, his assumption of Pope contributed to the democratic activities.2 The Pope addressed the problems of abortion and merciful death by Evangelium Vitae, his encyclical.3 He also earnestly addressed the problems of poverty and refugees. In 2003, the Pope declared his opposition to the American President George W. Bush's the US led invasion of Iraq. He warned "No to war! War is not always inevitable. It is always a defeat for humanity."4 His suggestion to avoid the conflicts was supported even by non-Catholic people. His lifetime must be greatly respectable for all the people
