Around the globe, there are various types of life, such as born in big city, living in rural area, spending thousands of dollars, living with less than a dollar. Many people are living in such a different condition, including civil wars, poverty, lack of electricity and poor education. The book called 'THE BOY WHO HARNESSED THE WIND' focuses on the poverty and poor education in the rural town in Malawi, and of course mainly focus on the boy's spectacularly great invention of the windmill.
In many countries in Africa, like Malawi, children can only can get very poor education. There is no enough materials, buildings and teachers for children. For example, in the book 'The boy who harnessed the wind', addition in Maths is taught by using cans of coke and beer, which would be very unusual scene for us to see the cans of beer at school.
As William himself, his parents couldn't afford to pay for his school fee, therefore, he had to drop out of his school. It is not the rare case, but many children had to drop out due to similar situation as William. In the book, it is written that during the famine, students appeared fewer and fewer as days spent on. It was because people were busy looking for any foods around, there were few left though.
On page 239, Dr Mchazime regrets that the poverty is taking away all the hope and opportunities from children, and also how poor the education is in the country. Therefore, the poverty in the countries like Malawi, bring not only the lack of food, but also miss some wonderful opportunities. As a result, the poverty causes worse standard of living to the people of the countries.
Without being educated well, it is hard to find a job in secondary sectors. Eventually, the working places where those poorly educated people can go are the fields. Consequently, under the poor educational environment, it is difficult to develop the country in the future so the poor countries or so-called less developed countries cannot slip out from poor. In fact, William was encouraged to go to school in South Africa which is the most developed country in Africa, so is the education.
Unfortunately, there are some casualties of famine around the world which includes many children. In the book, it says that William's friends were missing, but actually they were died from the famine struck in the district. It is really a horrible thing that you find your friends died when you are back to school for the new term. That would never happen around me, so I couldn't imagine how exactly William felt about it.
There is a kind of poor spiral indirectly written in the book, and which can be used to describe the people's living in poor countries. For instance, William's father is the poor farmer. In the book, William expresses his respect towards his dad, but he doesn't want to end up being farmer like his father. He felt this when he was confessed that his dad cannot pay the school fee for him. He also felt that he would be like his father in the future. In fact, if he hadn't succeeded with his windmill, he would have been a farmer just like his father, and that is the normal case in his district and all other poor countries. As a result, people can't get out of the poorness, and the next generations would go through the same poorness. It can be said that the people's lives in those poor countries are already doomed since they are born.
As the poverty and the poor education exist at the same time, people's lives in the place are very difficult. However, the reality is that many countries in Africa and some countries in Asia and South America are having those problems, and lots of people are died from that,
